Fulfilling His Passion for Volunteer Missions - Dr. Anderson Leaves Northwest Eye to Build a New Eye Hospital In Indonesia (May 9, 2008)

With mixed emotions, we need to inform you that Dr. Steven Anderson has elected to perform full- time medical missionary work and will be leaving Northwest Eye effective May 9th. Dr. Anderson is a partner of our firm and a highly skilled Ophthalmologist. His surgical skills are top notch, and he is a leader and true friend of many within and around Northwest Eye.

Dr. Anderson has a passion for developing and delivering medical services in underserved parts of the world. This summer, he and his family will leave for Indonesia to establish a new eye hospital. This is a huge undertaking of which we all wish him great success. The partners of Northwest Eye celebrate his success and have assisted in providing him with supplies and equipment to establish the hospital in Indonesia.

We will truly miss Dr. Anderson's skills and friendship. We will be losing a friend, but the world is gaining a new eye hospital.

Northwest Eye Clinic announces its accreditation for the Minneapolis Children's Orthoptic Program (February 1, 2008)

This certification program is an exciting opportunity where students can develop professionally and be a part of the team delivering services to a great variety of patients representing a diversity of pathology and treatment plans. Students must be accepted into the program where oversight and direction is led by the Orthoptic Director and Medical Director.

Northwest Eye Clinic exemplifies the ideal educational environment for the orthoptic student. The clinic is a large multi-specialty ophthalmology practice whose Pediatric ophthalmology specialty serves patients in two locations. The Maple Grove and Minnetonka offices are designed to meet the unique needs of the patient and fulfill the specific provisions for the orthoptic program.

Northwest Eye Clinic continues to demonstrate its commitment to quality by training students to become certified orthoptists. We are excited for the professional development of each student as well as for the value the Northwest Eye Clinic Orthoptic Program brings to the healthcare community.

Northwest Eye Clinic raises $6,000 for the Foundation Fighting Blindness

The Foundation Fighting Blindness had a successful fund raiser in the State of Minnesota. Of the 25 VisionWalks so far, the MN walk raised the second highest right after the “Big Apple”, NYC. The goal in the State of MN was to raise $100,000 and to date the total is nearing $150,000.

Northwest Eye Clinic would also like to thank and congratulate all our employees, their families and friends for our successful fund raiser. Together, we raised almost $6,000.  The Surgery Center and Business Office raised approximately $1,500. The Foundation Fighting Blindness is planning another VisionWalk next year during approximately the same time period. Mark your calendars.

Wavefront Lasik Surgery

Wavefront is a new technique in which all the eye errors that cause blurry vision are precisely measured. This technology is an offshoot of the same technology used to fix the Hubble telescope. This information is then used to create a custom, individualized treatment plan based on your eye errors. This FDA approved treatment demonstrated superior results when compared to conventional lasik. Some 96% of patients achieved uncorrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better, 74% 20/16 or better, and 19% 20/12.5 or better.

Waveprint is the trademarked name of the VISX WaveScan Wavefront system used by Northwest Eye Clinic. The Waveprint system also incorporates the 3D ActiveTrac Eyetracker and Variable Spot Scanning. The Eyetracker automatically tracks any eye movements and directs the laser spots to the desired area in the eye. Variable Spot Scanning varies the size of the laser beam to correct any eye errors that are present regardless of their size or shape. Feel free to contact us for additional information.

Who has the Best Eye Doctors?

The Mpls/St. Paul Magazine “Top Doctors” 2003 issue listed four doctors from Northwest Eye Clinic. This is more than any other eye care group in Minnesota. Just one more reason to have your eyes cared for by Northwest Eye Clinic -- the “Experts in Eye Care”.

Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT)

Northwest Eye Clinic, always a leader in technology, has purchased the Lumenis Selecta 2 Glaucoma Laser System. This “Cold” laser represents a leap forward in controlling high pressures in glaucoma patients. Many of our glaucoma patients who had this treatment were able to discontinue one of their eye drops or even stop using eye drops altogether. If you have glaucoma, ask your eye doctor if “SLT” might be the right treatment for you.
