Intraocular Lenses (IOLs)

Intraocular Lenses (IOLs) are artificial, implantable lenses used to correct problems with your eye's natural lens. IOLs will improve visual sharpness and less your dependence on eyeglasses or contact lenses. You may also elect to have monovision, where one eye is corrected for distance and one for near vision. Your eye surgeon will help you understand the benefits of monovision and the benefits of the 4 types of IOLs we provide:

  • Multifocal Intraocular Lenses (IOLs) help most people see near, far, and everything in between without depending on glasses all of the time.
  • Accommodating Lenses provide distance, intermediate, and some near vision. Glasses might be required for reading small print, for reading for long periods of time, or for driving at night.
  • Premium Toric Lenses provide distance vision and corrects astigmatism. Glasses will be required for close-up vision.
  • Standard Intraocular Lens (Monofocal Lens) corrects for distance or some degree of distance and does not correct astigmatism. Glasses might be required for close-up vision (many patients often prefer to wear bifocal glasses).

IOLs improve vision diminished by many eye conditions, not just cataracts. If you suffer from presbyopia, astigmatism, or myopia, or don’t qualify for corneal surgery, IOLs are a safe and helpful alternative to correcting your vision.

There are certain requirements to be a candidate for IOLs. Our board-certified ophthalmologists will determine your eligibility and help you select the right type of IOL for you. Our ophthalmologists also perform the surgery, so you’ll work with the same doctor you already know and trust.
