Traditional LASIK

LASIK is a procedure that corrects your vision by re-shaping your cornea with a laser. By re-shaping your cornea (the part of your eye that refracts light onto your lens), LASIK improves visual acuity and reduces your need for glasses and contact lenses.

LASIK Procedure

Before the procedure, you’ll receive pain medication and topical drops to numb your eyes. Your surgeon will carefully create a thin flap on your cornea. This flap is folded back and a laser is used to correct the cornea (the laser procedure takes only a few minutes). The flap is then repositioned to heal and your eye is covered with a protective shield. The entire procedure takes 15 to 20 minutes.

Recovery

After the procedure, your surgeon will inspect your eyes and review at-home care with you. Your eyes should heal quickly, but you’ll need to use special care to make sure they healing properly. We’ll schedule an appointment the day after your procedure to follow-up.

Results

You should be able to return to work a couple days after your procedure. You’ll notice improved vision within a few weeks. Complete recovery generally takes about six months.

Like any surgery, LASIK has risks and varying results. Your surgeon will explain and discuss these with you and answer any questions you have before your procedure.
